When I was 9 I knew exactly who I was and who I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be an artist. I wanted to spend all day making art, drawing cool stuff and have cool hair in a cool studio. I am now an adult and things didn't exactly turn out that way. Money is now the center of everything. In America your value as a human being is directly linked to how much money you are worth. It's also no secret that art is not a lucrative career for the vast majority of artists. Art is just not a practical job opportunity. And yet... I'm not happy. Life feels gray. Something is missing. Each time I ask myself "what's wrong?" I inevitably come back to that 9 year-old kid. What would she think if I told her what her life would be like when she was a grown-up? I feel like I made her a promise. I also feel like it's not too late. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
